Empower Queer Hub is a nationwide, community-built platform created to support, uplift, and amplify LGBTQIA+ lives across the Philippines. Rooted in lived experience and collective action, the hub was born from the long-standing advocacy work of Wagayway Equality, a grassroots LGBTQIA+ organization based in Batangas with growing reach nationwide.
What began as the Wagayway Empower Queer Project—supported by the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund through Humanis—has evolved into a full digital hub designed to make safe, affirming, and accessible resources available to queer individuals wherever they are. The platform is sustained and strengthened through collaboration with Ascend Development Solutions, whose expertise in training systems, sustainability frameworks, and human-centered design ensures that the hub remains strategic, inclusive, and community-led.
Empower Queer Hub exists to remove barriers. It provides access to mental health resources, legal pathways, HIV and health services, livelihood and leadership opportunities, community events, and shared stories—all within a safe and respectful environment. The platform reflects a clear belief: the community is the expert, and support should be accessible without fear, judgment, or gatekeeping.

Empower Queer Hub is designed to serve both regional and nationwide audiences. While Wagayway Equality’s strongest grassroots presence remains in Region IV-A, IV-B, and MIMAROPA, the platform ensures access for LGBTQIA+ individuals across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Empower Queer Hub is guided by Aivan Castillo Alvarez, Founder of Wagayway Equality and the visionary behind the Empower Queer program. Aivan is a development practitioner, LGBTQIA+ rights advocate, researcher, and trainer with experience across human rights work, SOGIESC advocacy, socio-economic inclusion, and organizational development.
Under Aivan’s leadership, the hub operates on a simple but powerful belief: the role of leadership is not to control, but to amplify community wisdom. This philosophy shaped both the content and structure of the platform.
Supported by volunteers, partner organizations, and Ascend Development Solutions, the hub is nurtured as a movement rather than a static project.
Empower Queer Hub now stands as a strong, accessible, and community-centered digital platform. Users can explore verified resources, submit events or opportunities, share stories, and engage with advocacy efforts in a safe and welcoming environment.
The website supports ongoing updates, encourages participation, and provides a foundation for future growth. Metrics such as increasing resource availability, growing community-led events, and expanding story submissions reflect the platform’s role as a living, evolving space.
Most importantly, the site reflects its purpose. It is inclusive without being overwhelming, informative without being cold, and structured without losing its heart.
